Nana Opoku Kwarteng, the late dancehall star Ebony Reigns' father, has disputed that the driver involved in his daughter's murder has been prosecuted.
Over the weekend, several news outlets stated that the driver, Okoh Pinehas Chartey, had been charged with Ebony's death.
In response to the revelation, Nana Opoku Kwarteng rejected the claim during a phone chat with Emmanuel Agyeman (Braa Emma) on Onua FM's Anigye Mmre entertainment show. He further stated that the case has not yet been brought before the court.
"The issue has not yet been to court, and I have not heard anything of the sort," he said.
He further claims that the driver did not have a driver's licence at the time of the collision. However, no action has been taken.
"Some time back, radio personality Adakabre Frimpong Manso told me that the guy was driving without a driver’s license, and I have not heard anything concerning that development," he concluded.
Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, better known as Ebony Reigns on stage, was a Ghanaian dancehall/Afrobeats performer best known for her hit songs Poison, Maame Hwe, Kupe, and others. Bullet, formerly of Ruff n Smooth, discovered her.
Ebony Reigns was killed in a road accident on her way back from Sunyani to Accra after seeing her mother. Franklina Yaa Nkansah Kuri, her assistant and close friend, and soldier Atsu Vondee were also killed in the tragedy. The driver was the lone survivor of the incident. Ebony died just eight days before her twenty-first birthday.
