Asiedu Nketiah Explains Why Haruna Iddrisu Has Been Removed From The Minority Leader Position

Asiedu Nketiah, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), says the party chose to alter its leadership in Parliament in order to put its best foot forward.

He claims that the 2024 elections will be fought around the economy and that it is thus critical that the party places its finance and economic professionals in the forefront of the struggle to win election 2024.

"The truth of the matter is that the 2024 elections is going to be fought around the economy. So the debate is basically going to be about the economy. So If you are a party serious in fighting and winning elections, you must put your bet foot forward so you can win the debate.

You can’t just go and be telling people that the economy is in shambles when you are not able to put your experts there to be able to communicate to Ghanaians how you’ll do things better," he said.

The largest opposition political party in Parliament announced leadership changes on January 24, 2023.

Adjumako MP and current ranking member of the Finance Committee Cassiel Ato Forson will replace Haruna Iddrisu as head of the opposition, according to a letter signed by General Secretary Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey.

The leadership changes are claimed to be the result of a Palace Coup engineered by John Mahama and party Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah in order to counter the increasing power of the front bench led by Haruna Iddrisu.
