
There has been another death related to the Appiatse incident from last January.
The victim, who had a spine injury from the incident has been in the hospital all this while.
He passed away last Friday at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where he had been admitted.
The tragedy that occurred in January 2022 affected the spine of 27-year-old John Opare.
Opare had spent the last eight months going in and out of the hospital.
The spinal injury rendered him paraplegic.
This puts the disaster's total number of fatalities at 16.
Thirteen were pronounced dead at the scene, and the final three passed away in the months that followed.
The business responsible for the explosion at Appiatse in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, Maxam Ghana Limited, has been fined US$1 million with additional charges totalling US$6 million.
