Muntaka Reveals Motive Behind Asiedu Nketiah's Staged 'Coup D’état' Against Him and Others

Hon Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka, the former Minority Chief Whip and representative of the Asawase Constituency, has unveiled the motives behind the apparent 'coup d’état' attempt led by Mr. Asiedu Nketiah and the subsequent ousting of several party members from their parliamentary positions.

Muntaka disclosed that a significant upheaval was sparked when the Former Minority Leadership chose to remain neutral in the party's Chairmanship race, pitting Mr. Asiedu Nketiah against Samuel Ofosu Ampofo prior to the National Executive Congress.

Muntaka explained, "Asiedu Nketiah was contesting a sitting National Chairman. Elders urged us to mediate for his withdrawal, aiming for party unity. Despite our efforts, he persisted."

The lawmaker further detailed the outcome of a leadership meeting where a decision to remain neutral was reached.

Muntaka emphasized, "In light of their support, we decided to be neutral, intending to bring them together post-election." He underscored the decision's non-negotiable nature, stating, "Even if given another chance, we'd make the same choice."

Trouble escalated when the Minority disassociated from Deputy Chief Whip Ahmed Ibrahim's assertion that the NDC caucus backed Nketiah.

Muntaka reaffirmed his unwavering stance, asserting, "Principles mustn't waver even in loss."

The leadership transition that followed saw Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson succeed Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader, Kofi Armah Boah replacing James Klutse Avedzi as Deputy Minority Leader, and Kwame Agbodza taking over from Alhaji Muntaka Mubarak as Chief Whip.
