In a surprising turn of events, actor and former parliamentary candidate hopeful, Fred Nuamah, has officially withdrawn his ambitions to become the parliamentary candidate of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the Ayawaso West Wuogon (AWW) Constituency.
Instead, he has declared his staunch support for fellow actor John Dumelo's bid to lead the NDC in the same constituency.
Nuamah's decision to step aside from the parliamentary primaries was communicated through a letter dated August 7, 2023, addressed to the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the NDC.
In the letter, Nuamah highlighted that his choice to withdraw was guided by his commitment to the party's unity and the collective effort to secure victory in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
"I firmly believe that the NDC must present a unified front for the 2024 general elections. As a dedicated member of the NDC, I prioritize the party’s unity and the President John Mahama project aimed at rescuing our country," Nuamah emphasized in his letter to the NEC.
Expressing his support for John Dumelo, Nuamah said, "I wholeheartedly endorse and throw my support behind my good friend and brother, Mr. John Dumelo, to be the parliamentary candidate for the NDC in the Ayawaso West-Wuogon constituency."
He further urged his supporters to rally behind Dumelo and contribute to the party's renewed sense of togetherness.
The move comes as a surprise to many, considering the historical rivalry between Nuamah and Dumelo for the same political aspiration.
Nuamah's decision to step aside and support Dumelo has been seen as a significant step towards consolidating party unity and fostering collaboration within the NDC.
The Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency has been a closely watched battleground, with both Nuamah and Dumelo previously expressing their intentions to represent the NDC in the constituency.
Dumelo's earlier attempt and his strong connections within the constituency have made him a prominent figure, garnering considerable support.
With Nuamah's withdrawal and endorsement, the political landscape in the constituency takes a new turn, potentially reshaping the dynamics of the upcoming NDC primaries and the subsequent general elections.
