Foreign musicians continue to reap the rewards of their labour while Ghanaian musicians complain about the inadequate processes in place to monitor how their music royalties are handled and distributed to them.
Musicians from Ghana, including Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, and Okyeame Kwame, have said that their royalties are not very impressive. Some musicians only get GHC 500 a year.
Shatta Wale reportedly won the largest sum in 2022 since he cashed just GHC30,000, according to the Ghana Music Right Organization (GHAMRO).
However, Ghanaian gospel artist Sonnie Badu, who resides in the US, has stated that all of his properties were purchased with royalties and that his children and grandkids would also be able to profit from the program.
"Let's just say that the properties I possess across the world—lands and homes—come from my royalties from the music industry. So I checked that everything was done correctly from the other side of the planet. I made sure everything was carried out flawlessly. In an interview with Hammer Nti on Pure FM Kumasi, Sonnie Badu disclosed.
He said, "Even if I pass away, my children and grandkids will profit from my earnings.
