At least six people lost their lives, and several others sustained injuries when a VIP bus collided head-on with a trailer truck on the Kumasi - Techiman highway.
The tragic accident occurred at Nkenkaasu, a town in the Offinso North District of the Ashanti Region.
Eyewitnesses reported that the two vehicles were traveling in opposite directions when they crashed into each other in a devastating head-on collision.
It remains unclear whether the driver of one of the vehicles was sleeping or if there were other factors contributing to the accident.
The VIP bus, registered as AP- 1986 - 22, was en route to Techiman in the Bono East Region, while the truck, believed to be a Burkina vehicle with the registration number BF 2315 F1 03, was heading towards Kumasi, loaded with cereals.
Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, rushing the injured passengers to nearby healthcare facilities, and the bodies of the deceased were transported to the morgue.
The accident, which occurred on the dawn of Wednesday, August 2, 2023, resulted in heavy traffic congestion in the affected area, causing significant delays for commuters.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collision to prevent such tragic incidents in the future and ensure road safety measures are upheld.
