Tensions are rising in certain areas of the North East Region as youths go to the streets to protest the military's attempts to arrest the recently enskinned Bawku Naaba by the Nayiri.
To express their rage, youths in the Nalerigu and Walewale villages burned lorry tyres while screaming war songs.
The teenagers also vandalised some New Patriotic Party (NPP) billboards.
Sources inside the youth groups express dissatisfaction with the government and military over the recent peaceful instability in Bawku and Nalerigu.
They have threatened to use all possible measures to oppose any effort to arrest Nayiri and their rival Bawku chief.
The chief of the Maprugu Traditional Area, Naa Bohugu Mahami I, allegedly enskinned Alhaji Seidu Abagre as the new chief for Bawku on Wednesday, February 15 at the Nayiri Palace in Nalerigu.
The government, however, declared the installation null and unlawful and ordered the arrest of the new chief.
Military attempts to make the arrest on Sunday evening were greeted with violent opposition from the teenagers.
On Monday morning, the young took to the streets to voice their rage.
