Accra has been named the world's worst big city for air quality.
Ghana's capital city, along with Lahore, Pakistan, is classified in the 'Very Unhealthy' category.
Accra, with a US AQI of 212, falls 90 points short of the 'Hazardous' air quality category, the worst on the scale.
The capital city has been experiencing cloudy weather for the last few days.
Many have blamed it on the ferocity of the Harmattan season.
The weather, on the other hand, is turning out to be one of pollution.
However, the Ghana Meteorological Agency (GMet) said the "dryness and impaired visibility", which constitute dust carried from Chad, Sudan and Niger, "may take some time to dissipate".
"These conditions are expected to persist at varying intensities over the next few days.
"However, it is expected that there will be a relaxation in the intensity during the week and consequently," a statement signed by the Acting Director-General of GMeT, Eric Asuman, said.
The general population has been asked to stay hydrated, take fire safety precautions, cover meals and water to prevent dust from settling on them, properly wash fruits before eating them, and use nasal masks to decrease the effect on persons who are allergic to dust.
