Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has addressed the source of the power outage, which affected the majority of the country's consumers.
According to the electricity provider, the trip was triggered by a blazing bushfire under high-voltage wires near Tarkwa.
“A fire tender from Tarkwa Goldfields is on-site to bring the fire under control,” a statement immediately issued by the Corporate Communications Department said.
The scenario tripped all thermal plants, Bui generators, and consumer loads.
The 330kV Aboadze to Anwomaso line tripped initially, followed by a number of lines on the grid's western corridor, causing a system disruption.
But GRIDCo assured that restoration of power immediately commenced "and efforts are ongoing to restore power to all affected areas and customers".
"GRIDCo sincerely apologises for the inconvenience caused by this incidence and is working to restore normal power supply."
