An officer of the Kumasi Regional Police Command's Anti-Robbery Unit was killed when a fire destroyed his home in Apromase, Ashanti Region.

Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, his wife Yaa Achiaa, and their three-month-old infant were reportedly burned to death in the accident that happened Sunday night.

The cause of the fire is unknown, however officers from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) were on the site to begin investigations.

"I heard some noise and stepped out of my room," a next-door neighbour revealed.

"I saw thick smoke bellowing from the deceased's room and spreading to my room. I quickly woke up my two boys and rushed them downstairs. Some of the men who came out tried their best to break in and rescue the officer and his family but they couldn’t because of the steel door and burglar-proof window. Within minutes, the fire spread to all 5 apartments on the last floor."

Some police officers were also there to assist with the inquiry.

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), is on his way to the Ashanti Region to console the deceased relatives.

The deceased's bodies have been placed in the Living Waters hospital mortuary.

The fire took off the roof of the two-story residence, according to photos.
