Police in Migori County, Kenya, have detained a 21-year-old male suspected of many killings after discovering his disguise as a woman.
On November 14, 2022, a crossdresser by the name of Jared Opiyo was apprehended after being seen going by a police station while wearing female clothing but with clearly masculine traits on his body.
According to a report on the arrest, the suspect identified himself as a girl named Sheila Bichange while being questioned.
Upon a cursory examination, he owned up and produced a national identification card with a picture that matched his appearance and showed he is Jared Opiyo Nyatumba, a 21 years old Luo male adult from Homa Bay County, Ndhiwa sub-county, Kobama location, police said.
According to reports, the suspect is connected to a number of crimes, including killings.
During his questioning, word circulated across the town of Awendo that the suspect in the area's alleged serial killings, who was rumoured to occasionally dress as a woman, had been detained by Awendo police.
As a result, a furious mob stormed the police station and demanded to be given the culprit so they could lynch him.
The suspect was shown to them through the report office window, but they insisted that he should be handed over to them for lynching, the report read.
