This year's Africa Bitcoin Conference, the largest gathering of the continent's bitcoin community, will take place in Accra, Ghana, from December 5 to 7.
The program will bring together decision-makers, businesspeople, and captains of industry. Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter, will serve as the keynote speaker.
"The agenda is to create awareness on and help promote bitcoin adoption in Africa by instituting bitcoin-friendly legislation and regulatory frameworks," Mr. Alfred Adjabeng, Liaison of the Africa Bitcoin Conference, told a press conference in Accra.
The capacity of bitcoin to enable the movement, storage, and preservation of wealth, in his opinion, will no longer cause people to be terrified of it once the proper safety and regulatory mechanisms are in place.
Mr. Adjabeng claimed that the reason Africa was falling behind in adopting bitcoin was due to a lack of confidence and regulation, as well as the fact that key regulatory agencies had outlawed digital currencies.
Concern over the volatility of the bitcoin price, he added, is another obstacle.
He urged entrepreneurs using bitcoin on the continent to work hard to hold instructional workshops to make sure people understand the technology.
The first Africa Bitcoin Conference was organized to expand understanding of the qualities of the bitcoin idea, according to Mr. Prince Akpah, the conference's officer for communication and guest relations.
