The ground has been broken for the construction of a FIFA-standard Astro Turf at Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region by Tongo - Raana Naab Kugbil Namaltang, the overlord of the Talensi Traditional region.
Alhaji Salifu Zida, the chairman of the regional football association, five sub-chiefs from the Talensi Traditional Area, Cletus Zoot, the assistant headmaster of the Bolgatanga Senior High School, and Thomas Duanab Wuni Pearson, the district chief executive of Talensi, were all there.
You may recall that on August 5, 2020, the Ghana Football Association acquired the land in Winkogo, Bolgatanga for the construction of an AstroTurf after the Executive Council decided to use some of the project funds from the FIFA Forward 1.0 program for the construction of two Astro Turfs, one at Prampram and the other at Bolgatanga in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region.
When it is finished, the facility will provide services for the residents of Bolgatanga and the surrounding area and assist in addressing the region's severe lack of sports facilities.
Before granting the contract for the project's final phase, FIFA put the site through examination, testing, assessment, a geological and geotechnical study, and open bidding.
By January 2023, the project should be finished and turned over to the Ghana Football Association.
When finished, the Astro Turf will be used by the residents of Bolgatanga and its surroundings.
