NIB Releases Captain Smart

Captain Smart

Captain Smart, a.k.a. Blessed Godsbrain Smart, the host of the morning program Maakye on Onua FM/TV, has been freed by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) after his arrest.

Captain Smart was detained by the NIB in a similar manner in February this year.

After his arrest near Kawukudi on Wednesday, October 19, Media General Group applied pressure, and he was eventually released.

In the middle of heavy traffic, the NIB agents are said to have driven passed the broadcaster's car and crossed it with their unmarked vehicle.

He was subsequently taken to a first-guess destination by them.

Later, he was discovered in the Bureau's Interrogation Unit.

He was there, and senior Media General personnel watched while he was questioned.  Later, he was freed on bond.

The Wednesday arrest is said to be related to his remarks regarding President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo's lack of success in the war against galamsey.

The government expressed its displeasure with the comments earlier this week in a statement released by the Ministry of Information and signed by Deputy Minister Fatimatu Abubakar.

The statement also stated that the government had filed a complaint with the National Media Commission (NMC) and may consider legal action as a possible remedy.
