My Car Was Burnt On Samatex Premises - Wontumi Reveals

Chairman Wontumi

Bernard Antwi Bosiako, the NPP's regional chairman for Ashanti Region, said his car was set on fire at the Samatex company's facilities.

He said that the incident happened at Samreboi in the Western Region roughly five days ago.

Speaking on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen, Chairman Wontumi, as he is known, revealed this and said the attack was related to the dispute over control of the Nimri Forest Reserve.

"The Takoradi Police Command is aware of this incident and you can call to verify," he said.

The Nimri Forest Reserve operations of Samatex, a wood firm, and Akonta Mining Company have made headlines in recent days.

This happened after two people were shot in Samreboi when some young people allegedly stopped Akonta Mining Limited employees from sending further mining equipment into the Tano Nimri Forest reserve.

However, Chairman Wontumi, the head of Akonta Mining, has refuted claims that it is mining within the Nimri Forest Reserve.

He stated that in order to chase away some illegal miners who had infiltrated the region, his business went to the forest with security.

Wontumi argued that he is fully authorized to participate in large-scale mining and is not involved in galamsey.
