Apirede accident

In a terrible accident that occurred in Apirede in the Okere District of the Eastern Region on Friday afternoon, 7 October 2022, six people—four ladies and two males—died instantly.

The disaster, which happened at 1:30 pm, happened in the same spot where three University of Education, Winneba students and a lecturer perished on September 9, 2022, while on a field trip to the Afadjato Mountains in the Volta Region.

The 24 people on board the Springer bus with the license plate GY 1570-13 were reportedly travelling from Koforidua to Aflao for a funeral at the time of the disaster.

The driver, who was allegedly descending the hilly enclave, was reported to be overspending and lost control of the wheels as he or she came to a tight bend.

As a consequence, the car allegedly performed multiple somersaults.

An eyewitness and a motorist who identified himself only as TT blamed the driver of the Sprinter for the tragedy and described the events leading up to it.

According to him, he cautioned the Sprinter driver to slow down but he disregarded him.

I signalled him (driver) who was overspeeding to reduce the speed due to the nature of the road but he ignored me, he said.

The driver should be blamed, he was overspeeding and I told him to reduce it but he did not even look at me so I was not surprised it happened, the car somersaulted severally.

The Yilo Krobo District Hospital has received both the injured and the deceased's corpses for treatment and preservation.
