Asamoah Gyan, the former captain of the Black Stars, has reignited the debate over his connection with Andre Dede Ayew, the team's current captain.
Gyan and Ayew have been Black Stars colleagues since their respective AFCON debuts in 2008.
Both of them have served as captains of the Ghanaian national team, with Ayew filling in for the former Sunderland striker during that time.
Gyan, though, asserts that their connection is only professional and that's the extent of it.
Andre is my teammate but he's not my friend. In every job, you work together but not everyone is your friend that you go and come with, Asamoah Gyan told Wontumi FM.
Andre is my teammate and when we're in camp we work together but I can't ask him to join me to go and sit somewhere and have a conversation. I also have my own clique.
The last time Asamoah Gyan represented the Black Stars was at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. Just before the tournament in Egypt, he lost his captaincy as Ghana advanced to the round of 16.
