Ugandan Weigthlifter Missing From Training Camp Ahead Of The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games

A Ugandan weightlifter has disappeared from a pre-training camp ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic games.

The athlete who goes by the name Julius Sekitoleko was part of the Ugandan 2020 Olympic team which includes a swimmer, a weightlifter, boxers and their coaches.


According to the Ugandan Olympic Committee (UOC) the missing weightlifter was not qualified for the game as he did not make the quota informed by the International Weightlifting Federation.

Because of this he and his coach were supposed to leave Japan for Uganda on 20th July 2021 until he was nowhere to be found.


It was anticipated that he would qualify for the games. However he did not make the quota as informed by the International Weightlifting Federation on 5 July 2021. He, together with his coach, were due to return to Uganda on 20 July 2021, UOC explains.

The UOC also stated that they are cooperating with the authorities of Osaka the locate the hideout of Julius Sekitoleko.
