Bird Flu Already Affected 7 Farms Across Ghana

Ghana has so far recorded 5,811 bird death resulting from bird flu infection in 7 seven affected farms across the country.

The Avian Influenza since its first record in the country has naturally killed 5811 birds while 4500 birds have been destroyed by the Veterinary service.


Dr Patrick Abakeh who happens to be the Director of the Veterinary Service Directorate has confirmed that the disease has so far affected seven farms in Ghana.

He, therefore, revealed that in the Greater Accra Region, 300 birds were destroyed by the veterinary service while 3,167 birds died naturally from the disease infection.


In the Central region, 2,400 infected birds died naturally while 4,200 were destroyed by the veterinary service.

In the Volta region, only one farm has so far been affected with 224 natural death from the disease.


According to Dr Abakeh, the disease which is now gaining its feet in Ghana was first detected on 6th July 2021 and was confirmed on 8th July 2021 after series of laboratory tests.

The Ministry, therefore, urge the Ghanaian populace not to panic as the Veterinary Service Directorate is taking the necessary measures to contain the outbreak and spread of the disease.
