Mother and Daughter Make History as First to Travel to Space Together

Anastatia Mayers, and her mother, Keisha Schahaff

An 18-year-old Aberdeen University student, Anastatia Mayers, and her mother, Keisha Schahaff, are set to create history as they become the first mother-and-daughter duo to venture into space.

The remarkable journey comes after the pair won a coveted spot on Virgin Galactic's second commercial flight in a prize draw.

Anastatia, a second-year philosophy and physics student, attributes her once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to her decision to study in Scotland.

A chance encounter during her mother's flight from Antigua to London led to Keisha entering the competition that would change their lives forever.

The mother-daughter duo will make history not just as family members venturing to space together but also as the first individuals from the Caribbean to undertake such a journey.

Their mission, Galactic 02, marks a significant milestone for the American space company as the first with paying customers onboard.

The prospect of space travel fills Anastatia with a sense of responsibility to inspire others, both in Scotland and Antigua, where she has strong ties.

She hopes to break barriers and prove that dreams can be achieved regardless of one's background or circumstances.

Their upcoming spaceflight will not only be a life-altering experience for Anastatia but also for former Team GB Olympian Jon Goodwin from Newcastle, who will join them on the mission.

Goodwin will become the second person with Parkinson's to venture into space, as well as the first Olympian to do so.

As the launch date from New Mexico approaches, excitement and anticipation continue to build for Anastatia, Keisha, and Jon, whose dreams are set to become reality among the stars.
