The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced the commencement of new voter registration from Tuesday, September 12 to Monday, October 2, 2023.

This initiative is undertaken in anticipation of the forthcoming District Level Elections scheduled to take place on Tuesday, December 19, 2023.

The EC, responsible for organizing and conducting public elections, referendums, and other related activities, revealed that a total of 6,272 Electoral Areas are set to hold elections on December 19, with the exception of the Nkoranza North and Nkoranza South districts located in the Bono East Region, where the elections will not be held.

In a press briefing held on Thursday, August 17, in Accra, Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the EC, provided insight into the registration exercise.

It was mentioned that the EC's primary goal is to register approximately 1,350,000 new voters by the conclusion of the registration period this year.

Mrs. Jean Mensa emphasized that the EC is determined to facilitate a seamless registration process and ensure that all eligible citizens have the opportunity to participate in the upcoming elections.

She highlighted that during the last registration event in 2020, the National Identification Authority (NIA) had successfully registered over 10 million individuals.
