A boat capsized on the volta lake

In the Volta Region, a boat conveying mourners from Azizanya to Azizakpe capsized.

Five of the approximately 20 passengers on board have been confirmed dead, and a rescue attempt to save the other passengers is underway.

Daniel Adzakpa, a member of the Azizakpe Electoral District Assembly, verified the incident.

According to him, the boat capsized Saturday morning while transporting mourners to burial in Azizakpe due to a storm.

According to the Assembly member, the boat was supposed to carry 25 passengers, but he believes there were more on board.

"The boat was overcrowded," he said on Saturday, March 18, on TV3's Midday Live.

When the rescue effort was carried out, hundreds of neighbours, including other mourners, were observed praying for good news.

Residents, mostly women, were gathering on the riverbanks, screaming prayers for the missing to be found.
