Eighteen victims of the Kintampo accident have received treatment and been discharged, while four others who are in critical condition have been referred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
On Independence Day, twenty-five people were rushed to Kintampo Municipal Hospital, six of whom were critically unstable and needed to be referred to more advanced hospitals for treatment. However, bed unavailability caused a delay in their referral.
The Human Resource manager at the Bono East Regional Health Directorate intervened, and on Monday evening, four of the critically unstable patients were successfully referred.
The remaining three patients are in stable condition, according to health workers at the facility.
Seven of the twenty-three dead bodies have been identified and are being prepared for burial in Kintampo.
The driver of the Grandbird Bus, his mate, and the Articulated truck driver are assisting the Kintampo Divisional Police Command in their investigation of the accident.
The fatal accident occurred on March 5th, 2023, late at night, resulting in the deaths of twenty-three people and various injuries sustained by around twenty-five others.
The accident involved a Grandbird Bus with registration number As463522 and an Articulated truck with registration number GW1127P. It occurred around 11:45 pm between Kintampo and Babato Kumah on the Kintampo Tamale Highway, near the Kintampo waterfalls.
According to eyewitnesses, the main cause of the accident is yet to be established. Some said it was due to a head-on collision between the two vehicles after the driver of the Articulated truck attempted to avoid a broken-down vehicle on the roadside.
The dead bodies are currently being preserved at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital Mortuary.
Honorable Kwasi Adu Gyan, the Bono East Regional minister, and honorable Isaac Baffoe Ameyaw, the Kintampo North Municipal chief executive, together with the Kintampo Divisional Police commander, visited the accident scene and the victims at the hospital to express their condolences.
Dr. Anthony Twum, the Medical Superintendent of Kintampo Municipal Hospital, informed the media that six of the victims were in critical condition and were being prepared for referral to Komfo Anoakye Teaching Hospital and the Tamale Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
