On Wednesday, February 22, 2023, a woman accused of assaulting a teenager with acid is scheduled to appear at the KwaDukuza Magistrates Court in Stanger, north of KwaZulu province, South Africa.
It is claimed that the 18-year-old girl, named Londi Thabethe Purity, was sprayed with acid following an altercation with the accused's daughter.
The victim was burned on the face and upper torso and is being treated at the hospital.
Outside the court, there was loud singing and shouting in anticipation of the woman's presence.
The roads surrounding the courthouse were closed by local police.
Protesters holding signs demanding justice for the victim included members of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and the African National Congress (ANC).
