The remains of former Ghanaian player Christian Atsu arrived at Kotoka International Airport, creating a sad moment for football lovers in Ghana and throughout the world.
Atsu, who played for Chelsea and Newcastle United, was one of the thousands of people killed in Turkey earlier this month by a devastating earthquake.
On Saturday, Atsu's dead body was located beneath the ruins of his home in Turkey after a two-week search.
His agency confirmed the devastating news on Twitter on Saturday, generating an outpouring of condolences from fans and former teammates.
On Sunday evening, a team of prominent Ghanaian government officials, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Prosper Harrison Addo, and members of the clergy, received Atsu's remains.
The mood was solemn as the country grieved the death of one of its most outstanding footballers.
