Christian Atsu's wife, Marie Clara Rupio, with whom he has three children, has spoken out for the first time since the player's tragic news, which has been trending on social media for three days.
Yesterday, rumours on social media claimed that the player had been found alive and had been taken to a hospital for treatment.
Ghanaians went to the internet to rejoice at the news, however, an updated report refuted the claims that Atsu had been found.
Following the news, Dan Kwaku Yeboah of Peace FM paid a visit to Christian Atsu's family home in Ogbojo, Accra.
The mood in the house was tumultuous, with several family members struggling to keep their emotions in check.
Speaking with the player's elder brother, a preacher, he told the sports writer that the player's wife had spoken to them and that she is now depressed due to a lack of hope and bravery.
According to Atsu's preacher brother, his wife hasn't heard from him and is unsure whether or not her husband is alive, making the situation exceedingly distressing.
Meanwhile, she had previously been informed that her husband had been rescued.
She also pleaded with Ghanaians to keep praying for her husband till he is located.
The misunderstanding began when a Christian Atsu lookalike was rescued but it was then discovered that the Ghanaian international was not the one who was transported to the hospital.
