Sergeant Owusu Asante Baafi, a member of the police service's Anti-Robbery Unit, was laid to rest at his village of Adomfe in the Asante Akyem South Municipality in the Ashanti region.

The remains of the officer and his wife, Millicent Akyaa Agyei, and their three-month-old infant, Samuel Kwabena Baafi Nyamedo, were escorted through a parade before burial, with uncontrolled weeping from family, friends, sympathisers, and coworkers.

Some police officers praised the young cop as committed and hardworking.

“He was a man you could trust any day, he was willing to put his life on the line to save others, and we have lost a friend and a fine officer “an officer said.

“He was selfless and hardworking, he was the life of every police operation” another intimated.

The funeral was attended by Ashanti Regional Minister Simon Osei-Mensah, as well as some senior police officers, including Director-General Legal and Prosecution, COP. Nathan Kofi Boakye, Director-General, Human Resource Development, COP Mr. Frederick Adu Anim, and Director-General Administration, COP Mr. Christian Tetteh Yohunu.

The Ghana National Fire Service, which has begun an inquiry into the event, has yet to determine the cause of the fire.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), George Akuffo Dampare, visited the spot to examine the extent of the damage and asked that personnel impacted to relocate as soon as possible.
