Mr Joseph Yammin, National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), contends that the party leadership is not required to confer with Parliamentary leadership before making changes.
"You don’t have to be informed when the party is going to appoint you for any position. And after your appointment you are not to be informed if you are going to be removed. We only inform you that, look your service is not needed at this time", Mr Joseph Yammin justified recent changes.
"I have gone through it before", he added.
Mr. Yammin's remarks came only days after some minority members of Parliament expressed their discontent with the party's decision to remove certain senior leadership in parliament.
Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, Kwame Governs Agbodza, and Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah have been appointed as new leaders to replace Haruna Iddrisu, James Klutse Avedzi, and Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka as Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, and Minority Chief Whip, respectively.
However, a group of MPs in Parliament has objected to the decision, claiming that they were not consulted, which is disrespectful.
However, according to Joseph Yammin, Members of Parliament are not greater than party leadership, thus they must respect the decision and accept it in good faith.
"So I don’t see where the issue of we weren’t consulted and whatever that has come. Because whether we consulted you or we didn’t the powers to make you serve the party in that capacity doesn’t rest with you", Mr Joseph Yammin said this in an interview with Radio Gold.
He also stated that everyone who matters in the topic was consulted, with the exception of the minority caucus in Parliament, which no one can challenge.
"And the reason we didn’t consult them was that, if we had done that, we wouldn’t have been able to do what we have done", he revealed.
