NSS Suspends Ashanti Regional Director

Ashanti Regional Director, Alex Opoku Mensah

The National Service Scheme (NSS) has suspended its Ashanti Regional Director, Alex Opoku Mensah (OMENS), for two months without pay, recalled him to serve under supervision at the scheme's headquarters, and told him to apologise to the scheme for tarnishing its image.

Mr Opoku Mensah is to follow the direction with immediate effect, according to a letter dated December 23, 2022, and signed by NSS Executive Director Osei Assibey Antwi.

In a statement released earlier by the Institution it state;

"I wish to inform you that the Committee [ of Inquiry] has completed its assignment and submitted the report to Management [ a copy of which is hereby enclosed for your attention]. At a sitting on Wednesday 21st December 2022, the Board after extensively deliberating on the Committee’s Report, unanimously adopted the recommendations proffered by the Committee. On that basis, you are suspended for two(2) calendar months with pay. After the suspension you are to report to the Head Office to work under supervision. With seven(7) days upon the receipt of this notice, you are also to issue an official apology to the National Service Scheme for bringing the name of the scheme into disrepute. The directive takes immediate effect."

A press statement from NSS office

Mr Alex Opoku Mensah stormed the Manhyia District Hospital in November last year and verbally harassed a nurse after the nurse had a quarrel with Mr Opoku Mensah's daughter, a medical practitioner at the institution.

The attack infuriated nurses, who organised a nationwide strike and demanded his dismissal.
