More Arrests Made In Connection With Kenyan LGBTQ Activist Murder

LGBTQ activist and fashion designer Edwin Chiloba

According to authorities, four people have been detained in Kenya in connection with the violent execution of LGBTQ activist and fashion designer Edwin Chiloba.

According to local media, preliminary investigations revealed that his eyes had been gouged out before his body was deposited in a metal box on the side of the road.

Human rights groups have connected Chiloba's murder to his sexuality, although the motivation remains unknown.

Police claimed on Friday that they had apprehended his long-time friend in connection with his death. Police identified him as the primary suspect.

On Saturday, police announced they had detained three additional individuals and recovered the car alleged to have been used to dump Chiloba's corpse.

It was discovered in a decayed state by the roadside in the western town of Eldoret on Tuesday.

Chiloba, who was in his mid-20s, was characterised as an "amazing human" and an "iconic fashion designer" in tributes on social media.

According to a friend, he went to Eldoret from Nairobi in 2019 to study fashion and was starting to create a reputation for himself in design.

Chiloba stated on Instagram last month that he was "going to fight for all marginalised people," citing his own marginalisation.

Human rights organisations have urged authorities to investigate his death as soon as possible.
