After less than a year in charge at Goodison Park, Everton has fired manager Frank Lampard.
Everton's defeat against fellow strugglers West Ham United on Saturday was their ninth in 12 Premier League matches.
They are second from the bottom of the standings, with 15 points from 20 games, and they are ahead of Southampton on goal difference.
Former England midfielder Lampard, 44, took over for Rafael Benitez in January 2022, when Everton was 16th in the standings, and helped the club avoid relegation.
Everton is seeking its sixth permanent manager in the last five years.
Following a 1-1 draw against defending champions Manchester City on December 31, Everton fell 4-1 to Brighton at Goodison Park, was knocked out of the FA Cup with a 3-1 defeat at Manchester United, and was then defeated by Southampton despite taking the lead, before the latest defeat by West Ham.
They have only three victories this season.
In recent games, there have been significant and vociferous fan protests against the board, and supporters staged a sit-in demonstration following the loss to Southampton.
Everton's board of directors were absent from the game due to a "serious and credible danger to their safety," according to the club.
Before the game, Everton announced "increased security protocols." Merseyside Police claimed no threats or incidents had been reported to the police.
This was also in response to several fans assaulting defender Yerry Mina and midfielder Anthony Gordon as they drove away from Goodison Park last weekend.
Everton owner Farhad Moshiri and much-criticised long-serving chairman Bill Kenwright watched his first game in 14 months against West Ham. When questioned by Sky Sports during the game, Moshiri said it was not up to him to decide Lampard's future.
