A/R: Angry Asawase NDC Members Storms Party Office, Burns Car Tyres In Protest Of Muntaka Removal

Heavy security was required at the Ashanti regional NDC office to prevent property destruction.

Angry Asawase protesters marched to the office to voice their dissatisfaction with the substitution of their Member of Parliament, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, as minority chief whip in parliament by MP for Adaklu Kwame Agbodza.

Dissatisfied NDC supporters set fire to vehicle tyres outside the regional party headquarters.

They called the national party bosses' bluff on the parliamentary leadership changes in unison.

They just have one requirement. Otherwise, the party risks losing votes if the changes are not reversed.

"They want to destroy our party. Without Muntaka in the parliamentary leadership, no vote", Usman Ismail fumed.

Augustus Andrews Nana Akwasi, regional chairman of the NDC, had to step in to calm things down.

He promised them that their complaints would be forwarded to the proper authorities.

"There are structures in the party. Let us not do anything that would bring the party's reputation into discredit. Let's rather remain unified and regain power in 2024".

The police were also quick to intervene in order to avoid property destruction.

Meanwhile, during a previous news conference, several NDC Asawase constituency executives challenged the party's leadership to change their decision.

"We are yet to come to terms with the news as to whether or not such decision was taken by the functional executive committee of which both Haruna Iddrisu and Muntaka Mubarak are members. Whether or not the council of elders of the party were consulted. Whether or not the minority MPs were consulted. We are compelled to come to the conclusion that, the action is undemocratic as it lacks proper and broader consultation.

We are by this statement requesting the party to withdraw these changes with immediate effect and to the needful", Asawase constituency NDC secretary, Mugis Mahdi stated.
