The police have reported the arrest of two of the 16 people wanted for violent behaviour at the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 10th Youth and Women's Conference in Cape Coast.

The two - Abdul Halid Shaibu and Ibrahim Razak - were apprehended in Tamale on Saturday, January 7 following "targeted intelligence operations".

"The two suspects are currently being held in custody and assisting the police with the investigations," the Ghana Police Service stated in a statement.

Following the unrest that saw warning shots fired at the Conference, photos of the 16 were released.

Some NDC officials contacted the police on their decision to declare the 16 wanted, claiming that the police had no jurisdiction to do so.

Other members of the party distanced themselves from the sought suspects, claiming that none of them were registered members of the party.

However, authorities have stated that they would continue to pursue the criminals until all of them are apprehended.

"The targeted intelligence operations are still ongoing to arrest the remaining 14 suspects and we would like to assure the public that we shall surely get them to face justice."
