Angry Chiefs In Cape Coast Curse UCC Vice-Chancellor With 77 Deities

Chiefs in Cape Coast

On Wednesday, protesters and angry chiefs from five Paramouncies in the Cape Coast Traditional Area, including Kwaprow, Amamoma, Akotokyir, and Kakumdo, hit the main streets of the historic city, broke eggs, and poured libations to invoke 77 deities on Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, vice chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC).

The Vice-Chancellor is being accused by the chiefs of utilizing school property for commercial purposes, including the location of a supermarket, gas station, and many other businesses, without first addressing the problems that exist on the property.

The protesters held banners urging the government to intervene in the standoff between the community and the University of Cape Coast over land borders before it worsens while wearing red clothing and screaming war songs.

Some of the placards read "UCC give us our land, communities lands should be registered at lands commission, we need resettlement or agree on a common boundary" among others.

Speaking to the media shortly after a petition was delivered to the Central Regional Minister, Nana Kwesi Mensah III, a spokesman for the aggrieved traditional authorities and the Chief of the Kwaprow community, said his colleagues' chiefs had written to UCC and other people in authority suggesting a dialogue between the community elders and authorities of the school on how to resolve these outstanding issues amicably but that they had received no response.

"UCC authorities do not respect elders of the communities, we need resettlement or UCC authorities should co-operate to solve land boundary disputes, restrict movement of community members from one community to another, neglecting corporate social responsibilities and among others", he demanded.
