The Overlord of Akyem Abuakwa State, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panyin, has once again urged the government and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to examine the community mining initiative.
According to the environmentalist who has claimed on several occasions that the community mining project is a ruse, farmlands and water bodies are still being ruined and poisoned.
After shots were fired in the neighbourhood, the Okyeman Environmental Taskforce, which helped the Kibi Divisional Police with a special galamsey operation at Asaman Tamfoe, received harsh criticism on social media.
Speaking at the conclusion of this year's Cocoa Day celebration in Suhum over the weekend, Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin criticized the recent increase in galamsey, the sale of farmland to illegal miners, and the exclusion of chiefs from policymaking.
He also said that the actions of the environmental task force were solely intended to safeguard the future of children in the nation.
"No farmer has the right to sell off farmlands to illegal miners, and no chief has the financial prowess to purchase excavators which are mostly used for illegal mining," Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panin said in response to various accusations made against traditional leaders for the worsening situation of illegal mining in the nation.
