Nana Abredu Somuah II, the chief of the agricultural village of Kwahu Apradang in the Kwahu West municipality of the Eastern Region, has voiced his anger with his elders over how they handled a supposed rape case while he was away.

A 50-year-old Opanin Kwame Nkrumah Totowadwenmu, whose name means "to block your thoughts," is accused of raping a 16-year-old student in class six.

The victim's mother and father, Maame Pokua and Mr Kwaku Osei, alias Dwen Wo Daakye, described the event to a reporter.

They added that after spotting the indications of rape, they questioned their daughter, who admitted to having been raped by the suspect.

While the town's chief, Nana Abredu Somuah II, was away travelling, the matter was sent to the chief's palace so that the required steps could be taken.

One of the chief's elders, Nana Osei Wiafe, arbitrated the rape case and handed the suspect GHC 1,000 in costs for allegedly raping the class 6 student.

When Nana Somuah Abredu learned about this after returning from his trip, he was furious with his elders for handling the situation improperly.

Therefore, he has requested that the police step in and make the required arrests in order to stop others in the neighbourhood from taking similar activities.

Upon learning of the chief's most recent judgment, the suspect has gone to his heels.
