Cholera Likely To Resurge In Central Gonja; Buipewura Fears

The overflow of the Black Volta worries Buipewura Abdulai Jinapor II, the Paramount Chief of the Buipe Traditional Area, about the possible spread of cholera and other waterborne illnesses in the area.

Due to the development, the bulk of the neighbourhood has been flooded, which has affected how well the Buipe Water Treatment Plant supplies water to the region.

The CEO claims that the majority of people are now using untreated water sources due to a problem with the water pumping system.

On October 22, 2022, he said this during his speech at the Buipewura Damba Festival (BUDAFEST).

“The river water now is not good for drinking but my people will be forced to drink it, and if they drink it the likelihood of cholera is high,” Buipewura Jinapor II said.

Since then, he has urged the government and other foreign organizations to assist them.
