Kwasi Addo Alfred Kwarteng as the only child of his parents was born on May 26, 1975, in Waltham Forest, London Borough to Alfred K. Kwarteng and Charlotte Boaitey-Kwarteng, having left Ghana as students in the 1960s.

His father works as an economist for the Commonwealth Secretariat, while his mother is a lawyer.

Kwarteng attended Colet Court, an independent preparatory school in London, after beginning his education at a public elementary school in Waltham Forest.

It was there that he received the 1988 Harrow History Prize.

Kwarteng then enrolled in Eton College as a King's Scholar and won the Newcastle Scholarship award there.

At Trinity College in Cambridge, he studied history and classics. In 1993, he earned a double first-class degree and twice took home the Browne Medal.

He was a part of the BBC University Challenge winning squad in 1995. He belonged to the University Pitt Club in Cambridge and has subsequently visited again.

Kwasi held a position as a financial services analyst prior to becoming a Member of Parliament.

Kwasi Addo Alfred Kwarteng in 2010 was chosen as Spelthorne's Conservative Member of Parliament. He was on the Transport Select Committee from 2010 to 2013, and from that year to 2015, he was a member of the Work and Pensions Select Committee.
