An Ebola outbreak has been verified in central Uganda with the death of a 24-year-old infected male.
According to the health minister, the victim showed signs of the illness before passing away.
He was a local of Ngabano village in Mubende district, which is around 147 kilometres (91 miles) from Kampala, the country's capital.
The Uganda Virus Research Institute has verified a case of the very uncommon Sudan strain, according to a statement from the World Health Organization (WHO).
Eight persons with suspected symptoms are reportedly seeking medical attention, and personnel is being dispatched to the region in question.
The last breakout of the strain in the nation of East Africa was recorded in 2012.
According to Dr. Matshidiso Moeti, WHO regional director for Africa, "activity has been taken to promptly diagnose the virus thanks to its [Uganda's] experience, and we can count on this knowledge to limit the spread of diseases."
