One of the 10 months' worth of back pay owing to Nation Builders Corps (NABCO) trainees has been released by the government.
Dennis Opoku Katakyie, President of the NABCO Trainees Association of Ghana (NABTAG), reaffirmed this.
"NABCO trainees are now advised that stipends payment for November 2021, as one month's settlement of the 10 months arrears, has been handled," the NABTAG President stated in a statement. Actually, there are still nine months to be paid, from December 2021 to August 2022.
Although one month's payment represents a tiny fraction of the overall sum owing to them, the NABCO trainees expressed gratitude to the government for acting to "improve the deplorable position in which we find ourselves."
The government, in particular the Ministry of Finance, was further urged to "affix trainees' outstanding arrears into its following appropriations to allow the Secretariat to accomplish payment for the remaining months."
NABTAG issued a warning, stating that it will take every practical measure to guarantee that trainees get their full stipends for the remaining months.
"The leadership will employ another harsh step to forcibly guarantee that we get paid if, after a significant amount of time, the arrears for the remaining months are not entirely covered. Since we've already done it, we can do it again.
