Ophelia Mensah Hayford, the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Mfantsiman Constituency, has denounced Georgina Asor Botchwey's murder in Mankessim.
Ophelia Mensah Hayford, a member of parliament, issued a statement urging her constituents to maintain peace and aid the police in their investigation.
She also praised the police for capturing the two criminals so quickly.
In an excerpt from the statement, it is stated, "I urge on all constituents, especially the inhabitants of Mankessim, to be calm and that the police are on top of the matter and they are consequently applauded for the rapid reaction and the arrest they have accomplished thus far.
Georgina Asor Botchwey, 22, was reportedly slain and buried by Michael Darko and Nana Clark Onyaa at Mankessim within a traditional leader's kitchen.
Following her attendance at the Ankaful Nursing Training College for an interview, the victim was reportedly abducted by the pastor.
The Cape Coast District Court remanded the two suspects, Michael Darko and Nana Clark Onyaa, who are accused of killing the, into police custody.
When questioned by police, suspect Michael Darko—who is said to be the senior sister of the murdered victim and was last seen with her—led investigators to the spot where they had buried the body after her murder.
The girl's mother has revealed that Nana Onyaa and the pastor—who also serves as the sister's boyfriend—kidnapped the victim, sexually assaulted her, and then demanded GHS15,000 in ransom from her family.
According to a police statement, after the family refused to pay the money, the chief and the pastor murdered the woman and buried her in the chief's kitchen.
On October 4, 2022, the two will once again appear before the Court.
