Ghana Is A Democratic Republic Not A Chiefdom - Akoto Ampaw

Lawyer Akoto Ampaw

A human rights activist and veteran Ghanaian lawyer, Anthony Akoto Ampaw (Esq), says Ghana is a Democratic Republic and not a Chiefdom.

He made this remark on the back of some traditional chiefs in Kumasi allegedly shutting down Kumasi-based Oyerepa Radio Station.

Oyerepa Radio station has been on the Kumasi traditional ruler’s radar after Odike used their platform to allege that the Asantehene Otumfo Osei Tutu II and his subordinates are fully aware of the operation of galamsey in the Ashanti region.

This was said to have not sat well with the traditional rulers and hence allegedly reported to have suggested the said radio station stop operating.

Akoto Ampaw who was the lead counsel for the NPP of the 2020 election petition and also a pioneer in the media landscape since the beginning of the fourth Republic of Ghana, condemned the act and said chiefs should not interfere in the work of the media houses in the country since it’s a breach to the 1992 constitution of media freedom.
