Metro Mass Transit Bus Burnt; Over 70 Passengers Escapes Without Injury

One of the buses of the Metro Mass Transit carrying over 70 passengers has been burnt beyond recognition.


The bus with registration number GS 3611-Z was bound for one of Kumasi's popular prayer centres at Ejisu-Adadientem called Agya Prayer Camp on Monday.

Upon reaching the Tech Police station area the bus caught fire but fortunately, all passengers on board walked out without any injury.


In an interview with TV3's Akoma FM, the driver of the bus who goes by the name Maxwell Akrofi narrated the incident to Aduanaba Kofi Asante Ennin.

According to the driver, he smelt an unusual scent coming from the engine of the bus while en route Accra-Kumasi highway.


He then stopped the bus and ordered all the over 70 passengers on board the bus to get down as quickly as possible.

He decided to remove the battery to see if he would identify any fault.

A few minutes after the battery was removed he realized sparks of torches beneath the engine then the blaze intensified and razed down the bus while the passengers stood helpless.


Firefighters were called to the scene to help put down the fire but they got there after the fire had burnt down the bus beyond recognition.

Had it not been for my in-depth knowledge and decades of experience as a driver and God's intervention, a different story might have been told, he said
