The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has indicated the large number of COVID-19 vaccines that was sent to the Volta Region have been expired before usage.

According to Dr Kwame Amponsah Achiano, the Manager of the Expanded Programme of Immunisation at the Ghana Health Service, the vaccines got expired because of the refusal of people of the Volta Region to get the jab.

Speaking at a leadership dialogue series organised by the Centre for Social Justice, Mr Achiano revealed that a lot of the COVID-19 vaccines were dispatched to the Volta Region to help fight the prevalence of the deadly pandemic but because the people in the region are unwilling to take the vaccine, most of them have expired.

We had a lot of vaccines in the Volta Region. Unfortunately, because of hesitancy, we had a lot of them expiring and so we would be happy if senior people like you will support the Volta Region in overcoming this, he said.

The Ghana Health Service has a goal of vaccinating about 15 million Ghanaians by the end of the year but as of now, only 7.5 million people have been vaccinated.
