Out of the 5000 students who took part in the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the North East Region of Ghana, only 117 passed.
The North East Regional Minister, Zakaria Yidana, has disclosed that among the students who sat for the 2020 WASSCE in the region, 4,800 of them representing 97% failed while only 3% passed.
The Minister made this known to the general public in his speech when he was addressing the Walewale Vocational and Technical Institute during the handing-over ceremony of a 12-unit classroom block and a 400-bed capacity girl's dormitory.
The Education Directorate of the region believes the bad performance of the WASSCE students is a result of the various challenges facing the region's education sector which includes lack of teaching and learning materials, lack of infrastructure, lack of teachers accommodation and many more.
