The president of the democratic republic of Ghana President Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo gets the first COVID-19 jab.
President Akuffo Addo has taken the mandate to be the first Ghanaian to take the COVID-19 vaccine on Ghanaian soil.
The president on Monday 1st March 2021 received the first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.
In order to convince Ghanaians who have decided not to go for the vaccine to change their minds, the President took the shot on live television.
President Akuffo Addo after taking the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in the 37 Military Hospital in Accra said taking the shot first is a way to let the people know that the Vaccine is safe so as to encourage them to go for the shot.
He also added that taking the vaccine does not mean we are going to throw away all COVID-19 protocols but we can ditch these protocols after we eradicate the disease from the country.
First lady Rebecca Akuffo-Addo also accompanied her husband to get the shot.
The nationwide vaccination is expected to kick start on Tuesday, 2nd March 2021.
