The political temperature in Akwatia is heating up ahead of the by-election slated for September 8, 2025 — and now, a controversial prophecy has entered the conversation.
Popular Ghanaian pastor, Prophet Samuel Henry, widely known as Prophet Roja, has publicly declared that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) will emerge victorious in the upcoming poll. Speaking in a recent interview, he stated that unless the New Patriotic Party (NPP) follows a specific spiritual directive, they will lose the seat.
“NDC will win the seat. I’m asking the NPP to do something — if they don’t, the NDC will win hands down. But till now, no one has contacted me, both NDC and NPP,” Prophet Roja said.
The by-election follows the tragic passing of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the NPP Member of Parliament for Akwatia, who died on July 7, 2025, after a sudden illness. His death left the seat vacant, prompting a competitive race between the two major political parties.
The NPP has put forward Solomon Kwame Asumadu, CEO of Owuo Mining Company, while the NDC is fielding Lawyer Bernard Bediako Baidoo. On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, political parties, residents, and other stakeholders will cast their votes to decide who will replace the late MP.
Prophet Roja also claimed that he had foreseen the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi in a vision before it happened, but lamented that his earlier warnings were ignored. His new prophecy has sparked mixed reactions online, with some netizens dismissing it as opportunistic and others urging the parties — especially the NPP — to take his counsel seriously.
