Rex Omar Explains his Decision to Leave the Church

Renowned Ghanaian highlife artiste, Rex Omar, has shed light on the reasons behind his departure from the church he had been actively involved in for years.

The artiste shared his journey from being a devoted Christian to his decision to stop attending church services altogether.

Rex Omar fondly recalled his earlier days as an enthusiastic churchgoer, actively participating in various religious activities.

He highlighted how he used his singing prowess to contribute positively to the church's atmosphere through his musical talents.

However, a significant shift occurred when Rex Omar approached his pastor with the hope of receiving support from the church for his studio recording ventures.

His intention was to seek financial assistance from the church board to help fund his music recording projects.

In a recent interview on Accra-based Asaase Radio, Rex Omar disclosed that his pastor conveyed the church board's decision after extensive deliberations – they were unwilling to allocate church funds to support his studio sessions.

This revelation marked a pivotal moment that influenced his decision to distance himself from regular church attendance.

Recalling the turning point, Rex Omar shared, "Later, Pastor told me that the church board has sat down and they said ‘we can’t use church money for recording."

This experience left him disheartened and questioning his commitment to a community that seemed reluctant to invest in his music endeavors.

Interestingly, the highlife artiste reminisced about an unexpected turn of events – a 'worldly person' stepped forward and sponsored his recording efforts.

This unexpected support made Rex Omar reflect on his contributions to the church and how he had often received blessings in words but not in practical support.

Rex Omar expressed his disillusionment, stating that he saw no reason to continue investing his time and talents in a place where he felt his efforts were undervalued.

He questioned the irony of using his gifts to create gospel music inspired by the same Bible his pastor used to preach, only to face financial limitations when seeking assistance from the church.
