President Akufo-Addo has granted a Presidential pardon to Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, the former Deputy National Security Coordinator who served under the John Mahama administration.

The decision was made in consultation with the Council of State and was promptly communicated to the Interior Minister for immediate implementation.

The basis for the Presidential pardon was a petition submitted by Kpembewura Haruna Dari Bismark Banbange Ndefoso, the Paramount Chief of Kpembi Traditional Area, who appealed for clemency on behalf of Mimina Osman.

The petition cited both ill-health and good behavior as the reasons for the plea.

Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman had previously been convicted and sentenced to a five-year jail term in 2020 for willfully causing financial loss to the state in connection with the National Communications Authority’s scandal.

However, with the recent Presidential directive, he is now expected to be released from prison.

This move by President Akufo-Addo has sparked discussions and debates among the public, with some applauding the act of mercy towards the former official, while others question the grounds for granting the pardon.

The decision's implications on Ghana's justice system and political landscape are being closely examined.
